The
Evaporative Lightscattering Detector ZAM 3000 is an universal detector
for HPLC. It is used to analyze components which don‘t have UV
absorption, cannot be separated with an isocratic solvent and must use
a gradient elution, which can‘t be
used with a Refractive Index
Detector. Only mobile phases without any buffers should be
used.
In comparison to other ELSD detectors, the ZAM 3000 consists of a
rotation chamber with a nebulisation and a drying section made from
glass.
The chamber can be easily removed from the instrument and cleaned.
Description of operation:
The solvent containing the components is nebulized into aerosols and
sprayed into the rotationchamber at a given angle. In doing so, there
is a selection between smaller and larger aerosols, at which the
larger ones are flowing along the wall to a waste outlet and the
smaller aerosols are picked up by an additional gas (which can be
heated) and forced within a rotary movement, where the aerosols are
dried. The amount of additional gas, which is
set by a flowcontroller, determines the drying time of the
aerosols. This is a new Method (Patent pending) to optimize the
handling of the Aerosols and the work within a low temperature mode.
